-The El Agave Story-

The Villasenor family, founders of El Agave, proudly call Jalisco State, Mexico home but about 10 years ago the family moved to Southern California in their search for better jobs.  

The family soon began hearing talk of the many opportunities in the Northern Virginia area and they quickly found their way to Charlottesville where the Guadalajara chain of Mexican restaurants gave Mr. Villasenor a waiter position.  Mr. Villasenor quickly became part owner of one of the chains restaurants.

With his ear to the ground Mr. Villasenor heard Warrenton area restaurant goers complaining that there was nowhere to go in the area for real Mexican food.

"We looked at Culpeper first, but they already had Pancho Villa's. Then we came to Warrenton," Mr. Villasenor explained. "When we saw no Mexican restaurant, I began looking for an empty space."

Upon speaking with the rest of the family the Villasenors decided to put their savings together and begin working on their new space in the Warrenton Town Center.

"It was just dirty walls and an ugly floor when we got here," said Mr. Villasenor.  "It took us 3-1/2 months. We've still got some work to do - put up some paintings, things like that, but we did it all by ourselves."

The family is very proud of their new El Agave venture and they gladly work long hours in order to bring area restaurant goers "real Mexican food."

"Organization is the key. The important thing is to make sure everyone knows how to do their job right," he says. "If you do that, and use your head, everything works easier. The biggest problems, most of them you create in your own head," says Mr. Villasenor.

El Agave also opened a new location in Ruckersville, VA in 2001.
